Our Pre-school curriculum focuses on the development of the child as a whole intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally, creatively and morally. Children differ in their abilities and competence and we respond to individual needs in the same way we organize our learning through play. Our teachers plan specific age appropriate learning exercises, geared to cater to the need of every child.
We aim to provide updated knowledge and utilize the latest teaching techniques and methodology to impart the basics of education, using their own skills to research and seek information as opposed to just rote learning. Our Pre-school children are introduced to the fascinating world of computers along with the basics of English, Literacy, Urdu, Numeracy and Phonetics. Reading, using the Gold Star Reading Scheme helps children to start reading independently at an early stage. Even Playgroup goes to the library and learns to select books. They are helped and encouraged by the librarian who trains and further enhances their reading ability through audio visual aids. Furthermore every class has its own computers to incorporate the Reader Rabbit Program, which is fun based learning, for our children. These levels of Playgroup, Nursery and Kindergarten, naturally progress and integrate with our curriculum of Classes 1 to 4. Key Stage 1 The basic knowledge acquired at the Nursery and Prep level, creates a kind of platform from which they can enter into a much wider and longer sphere of educating their minds, thus broadening their horizons. The mind of a child is akin to a sponge that can absorb a lot, however the attention span of children is very short. There comes a time, when every child needs and wants to know more, he or she will show a willingness to learn. Some children may be ready for more earlier than others, but it must be kept in mind that every child keeps his or her own pace. No two children are alike, their sense of cognition does not develop together, their needs and grasp of concepts differ according to their individual mental development. That is why the age of five years + is considered both reasonable and fair, to expose children to more knowledge, apart from language and figures. Their earlier familiarity with the basics serves as stepping-stones to move on, adding links to a chain of continuity. Grade 1 and 2 are a preparation in the areas of language (both English and Urdu) vocabulary, diction, acquiring of grammatical skills, the ability to write with good expression and to inculcate in our children the habit of reading. Simple Mathematical calculations should enable children to utilize these skills in their practical lives. A book on Math's should not present a problem to a child, but should attract and bring out the natural skill to solve and find solutions, resulting in a sense of achievement and triumph. Science has been introduced in the syllabus at a very basic level, with a lot of activity-based learning. Demonstration of every scientific principle is stressed upon to enhance the perception of the young mind. Religion is an integral part of our lives and plays a pivotal role in the formation of character and personality. Simple facts about our belief in God and the Prophet, prayers, wadhu, sanitation and cleanliness etc are sufficient for this age level. It should suffice to teach them the importance of belief and the acquisition of good habits to help develop a healthy and wholesome attitude in life. As they grow older they can leam more about their religion in more detail. Learning how to use a computer, simple word processing, drawing, typing etc is all introduced to them at this level. They are taught about the computer itself, while sitting in front of it and learn how best to use it. This is not a burden for children at this age, as they find it fascinating and show great keenness to pick up through active learning. Children learn to draw and paint. Line, balance and symmetry are but a few of the skills acquired through art. It is a very important part of the learning process and paves the way to a world full of imagination and vivid imagery. Sometimes we learn to see through the child's eyes what we ourselves cannot perceive. We have gathered together those subjects and disciplines that enable our children at the ages of five + and six + to grasp the basic rudiments of knowledge that will not only enhance their own skills, but broaden their vision and horizons of the world around them, without overburdening them in their tender years. They will learn to apply what they have learnt, in their practical lives, feel confident in their approach to utilize and understand the world and environment around them and make full positive use of its resources available to them.
Key Stage 2 In English during Key Stage 2, our children read a more varied range of Texts, acquiring the language further. They can now analyze and discuss. Writing is more of a challenge and manifests itself in the child's expression and wider vocabulary. Grammar becomes more formal in its usage. Prefixes, suffixes, homophones are all introduced to the children. Urdu expression and vocabulary is given a higher boost at this level. Reading and language becomes more interesting. Filling in blanks and missing words etc. are all a part of their next two years of study. In Mathematics pupils now use the number system more confidently. They learn more, from counting reliably to calculating fluently with all four number operations. Children now explore features of shape and space and develop their measuring skills in a range of contexts. They use a wider range of mathematical language diagrams and charts. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is now done with double figures. Fractions, weight, length / area are all a part of their 2nd key stage. Exercises in mental math's train students to respond and react very quickly to a given problem. Science stimulates and exerts pupils' curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. Students now learn more about living things, materials etc. They are taught life processes including nutrition, growth, skeletal structure etc. of the human body. Solids, liquids, gases, their constitution and separation. The study of friction, circuits, good and bad conductors etc. is added to their knowledge. Plants and their life cycle, the solar system, health and nutrition, all these topics can now be understood and absorbed by bright and conscious minds. During Key Stage 2 in history pupils learn about significant people, events and places from both the recent and more distant past. They learn about their own country and other parts of the world. They learn about their own social, religious cultural background through different sources of information, using data to work and associate the importance of significant events. Geographical enquiry, small scale maps exploring the outside world, open an immeasurable world for children. They learn of people, places, volcanoes, earthquakes and natural resources of both their own country and other nations. They are taught the identification and description of places, according to environment, weather etc. In religious studies, children now are more formal and learn more about the Holy Qur'an and the life of the Prophet. Memorization of short surahs is also included in their study. They are taught more about Islam and the teachings of the Holy Qur'an with stories of the Prophets and their lifestyles serving as an example for our own way of life. Having already been introduced to ICT, i.e. computer studies, they develop their research skills further. They learn how to amend their work and present it in a more suitable manner. Copy and paste, graphics, using functions, keeping records, finding information etc. is a part of their ICT program. We are now following a more comprehensive and tailored program for our second key stage.
