The Bake Sale by 02 Students (Sep 7, 2007)
One Friday morning, while we were studying Islamiat, Ms Farah Naz told us that we were to have to have an equal partaking in the Bake Sale being arranged by 02A to be held the very next day. Thus began the preparations where we were asked (read:harassed) to bring something (edible, of course) for the Bake Sale. Though it was on a very short notice, everything eventually fell into place and the very next day, the Art Room was full of eatables ranging from frozen, “smelly” sausages to freshly baked (or bought) brownies (now that's called variety).
The most exciting part about the whole thing was that we were taken out of the math class before it was over with. We were assigned to different stalls and tasks, and so, we began preparing for the worst that could happen (an inevitable mustard fight!). The bell rang and little children started pouring in from what seemed like – everywhere, jumping and demanding food, as if they had been hungry for eons. Then came the grown-ups or seniors who behaved somewhat less embarrassingly. Somebody in our stall livened things up a bit with his drumming skills and started playing on the steel pots with knives while another chanted, “Hotdogs, hotdogs!”
The beverage stall managed quite well, while the brownies, owing to the quantity, were sold out fairly easily and quickly. The only stall with forty percent of the content left unsold was the ‘haleem' stall, only due to the complexity of managing the ‘haleem and naan'! The hotdog stand contributed the most towards the day's earnings. We managed to scrape a decent amount of money, which was just a little above fifteen thousand rupees. Excluding the amount that was spent on buying napkins, plates, etc, the rest was sent to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. It was the most fun anybody could have had within the prison-like walls of the school, and we sincerely thank Ms John for this opportunity!

Internet Broadcast (Jan 11, 2007)
After 9/11 the Holy Quran was the most selling book in the United States,' stated Mary Lahaj a Lebanese American, the guest speaker at the first ever internet broadcast by Empower Peace, which was viewed by countries all over the world, including Pakistan. As an American Muslim, she realized that Muslims were marginalized and were not in the mainstream, which prompted her to take up her present position, that would help her increase understanding of other faiths. Tricia Raynard and Mariam Abdoo of Empower Peace hosted the broadcast. They were joined by Diane Caldwell, the co-chair of the Women to Women Conference held in Boston this summer. Viewers e-mailed their questions for the guest speakers during the programme.
The majority of questions came from students of Resource Academia. The students asked pertinent and intelligent questions about the causes and remedies of the growing trend of Islamic militancy and how it is affecting the relationship between the western and the Muslim world. They also inquired about the image of the Muslim World as projected by the Western Media.
Interestingly, Rida Bhatti of O2 won an i-pod in the lucky draw held during the broadcast. This internet chat was the first of the regular monthly broadcasts planned by Empower Peace.
