Resource Academia celebrated the arrival of winter with an evening filled with musical performances by renowned singer Jawad and the celebrated band Jal. Students from Playgroup to A' Levels, their parents and faculty members from all three campuses came together at the Al-Hamra Cultural Complex for a fun-filled evening. Resource Academia's Chairperson, Mrs. Samina Amer attended the event.

The event began amid an atmosphere of festivity and merriment. Since students from several campuses of Punjab College for Girls had also been invited, the spacious auditorium was well filled up at the onset of the show.

The show began with a lively performance by Dr Sohail who soon had the crowded clapping and dancing!! The lovely Naghmana Jaffri received a very warm welcome from the enthusiastic crowd and went on to give a lively performance. The audience sang along and enjoyed her musical routine.

Jal Musical Group made a dramatic entry and completely captivated the audience with their singing and performance. The band members include Goher Mumtaz, Farhan Saeed, and Shazi on bass guitar. The band is extremely popular among the youth and is among the first of contemporary Pakistani bands that fuse Urdu vocals with modern Pop. The students cheered excitedly and sang along, while a few demonstrated their dancing proficiency. The liveliness of the Jal performers matched the equally animated crowd!

Last but not the least came Jawad, whose arrival added new vivacity to the concert and even those sitting quietly through Jal's performances, began clapping and cheering, while the children and the teenagers displayed their innovative dance moves. A jam session on the stage with Jawad singing away and students rocking the stage with their ‘bhangra' moves was a well deserved ending for a remarkable evening!!!

The A Level Campus held its end-of-year ‘Parent Teacher Meeting' for the Academic Year 2009 – 2010 on April 30, 2010. The meeting was planned well before the final school examinations in May/June 2010 to provide the parents and the teachers an opportunity to discuss the problems faced by the students and plan strategies to resolve them. The criteria for promotion to A2 are therefore reiterated below.

The promotion grade will be calculated in the following manner:

June Examination will constitute - 50%
December Examinations will constitute - 25%
Monthly Evaluations will constitute - 20%
Attendance and Behaviour will constitute - 05%

For promotion to A2, a minimum of 40% is required in at least 2 subjects.

Additionally, at least 80% attendance is required for promotion to the next class.

A lovely spring evening brought together students from Playgroup to A' Levels, their parents and faculty members from all three campuses together at the Al-Hamra Cultural Complex for a fun-filled evening with performances by leading singers, ‘Abrar ul Haq' and ‘Ainee'.

Students and parents arrived well in time and then waited patiently while the musicians set up their elaborate and complicated sound systems. Michael Kashif from A1 took the opportunity to sing some very melodious songs and was cheered by his peers. The audience was well-entertained while they waited until Ainee finally arrived. Everyone went into a festive mood and enjoyed it to the fullest, right from the word go. Ainee captivated the audience with her singing and performance and gave out numerous autographs to her fans. Abrar's arrival added new vivacity to the concert and even those sitting quietly through Ainee's performances, began clapping and cheering, while the children and the teenagers displayed their innovative dance moves. His distribution of CDs was somewhat erratic making the excited fans jump and dive for them.

Resource Academia's Chairperson, Mrs. Samina Amer graced the occasion with her presence and at the persistent requests of parents and students, declared the following day to be a school holiday. Everyone was relieved and sat back to enjoy Abrar's performance to its fullest.

One of the biggest competitive events in Pakistan , the LUMS Olympiad, commenced on the 21 st of March and continued until the 25th of March, 2010. LUMS Olympiad was attended by students of various institutions from many different cities across the country. It was an honour for us that our school gave us the opportunity to participate in this prestigious event

Resource Academia participated in a total of eight events including Speed Filming, Law Moot Court, Photo Essay and Singing. The first day was mostly filled with information sessions for all the events. The competitions continued on the second, third, fourth and fifth days. Apart from the competitions, there were social events which could not be missed. These included a concert, drama night, etc. Overall the atmosphere at LUMS was very friendly and helpful; however, our participants competed with their best.

Although the participants from our school did not win any contests, there were some remarkable achievements nevertheless. Our ‘ Parliamentary Debating Team' reached the final and our ‘ Mind Quest Team' reached the semi-final. LUMS Olympiad was conclusively an unforgettable experience.

Dafa 302 was an amazing experience that my whole team and I could never forget. Sajid Chaudhary and Sana Afzal came running to all the friends and informed us that we had to participate in a play competition called ‘ Colors and Humour' , arranged by LGS 55-Main. The script had to be submitted within two days and we didn't have the slightest idea about anything. I came up with a storyline and wrote a script based on it. Since the script was mine, everyone showed faith in me and also gave me the responsibility to direct the play.

Kashif Rana became the technical executive and we had Asif Ejaz on sounds. Working under Kashif, on lights and backstage we had Moeen-ud-din, Umar Saqib, Umama Fatima and Raza Hussain. The main characters in the cast included Sajid Chaudhary, Ruwel Sarmad and Ahsan Latif. Umair Basit, Romail Shaukat, Sidra Bhatti, Faraz Nazir, Waleed Ch, Haider Aurangzeb and Zubair Imtiaz were also part of the cast. Mahnoor Niazi was the make up in charge. Everything was done in a very short span of time, one week to be precise. From arranging the costumes to the most minor of the props, the lights and the sounds, everything was organized in one week. The cast memorized the whole script and perfected their acting in their respective roles in the given time. I remember shouting at them at the top of my lungs. Ruwel Sarmad specially gave me and perhaps everyone else a hard time. But it was all fun.

February 18th arrived and there we were, waiting for our names to be called. My heart kept beating at 100 mph during our performance as I stood there watching our actors perform. I am indeed proud of how well everyone did. I would specially like to mention Sajid Ch's extraordinary performance which captivated the audience completely. The technical team did an amazing job as well and we were all more than satisfied with how the things turned out.

The following day, we were invited for the award ceremony. We all sat excited, yet petrified. We aspired to win the award for Best Play… and guess what... we did! We jumped sky high and cheered as we were awarded the award for Best Play at ‘LGS Colours and Humor 2009'. It was an indescribable feeling. I got to lead the first team from Resource Academia that participated in and WON a dramatics competition.

To end it up, I would specially like to thank Mrs. Mashhadi for all her support and yes! The money! This was the first award but definitely not the last!

Shahbaz Sandhu (A1)

A lovely winter evening brought together students from Playgroup to A' Levels, their parents and faculty members from all three campuses together at the Al-Hamra Cultural Complex for a fun-filled evening with performances by leading singer, ‘Hadiqa Kiyani' and band, ‘Jal'. The anxiously awaited occasion saw students arriving well in time. The students were in a festive mood and seemed almost unrecognizable without their uniforms. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Hashim Bukhari [02A] exhibited his rap singing talent.

Hadiqa Kiani received a warm welcome from the very enthusiastic crowd and went on to give a lively performance. Hadiqa is a multi-platinum selling, multiple award winning singer, song writer, and TV host. She is widely known as the best female pop singer the country has to offer. She is also ranked as the second highest female selling pop artist of Pakistan with extremely successful albums including Raaz, Roshni and Rung. Her ardent fans sang along and enjoyed her lovely musical performance.

Resource Academia lays great emphasis on the academic growth of the students. Apart from providing a strong educational platform it also provides opportunities for students to bring forth their hidden talent in various fields and subjects which help to instill confidence and develop competence. Each year students from our institution participate in many national and international contests. One of these is the “National Science Talent Contest” in which RA students participate regularly. NSTC is organized on an annual basis by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Students first compete on a domestic basis and after the screening tests; a group of five students is selected to represent the country on an International basis.

RA is honoured that two of our students of A2, Zain-ul-Abidin Khas and Harres bin Tariq have qualified for the IPhO (International Physics Olympiad). These two students are a part of the five member team, which will represent the country on the international platform in Mexico this year. Four of our A1 students have qualified for the first camp of Physics for the upcoming IPhO 2010. This is a great achievement for these four candidates - Ali Farhan, Zia ul Azam, Muhammad Ahsan Latif Rana and Hamza Naveed. One of our students, Waqar Ahmad has been selected for the first camp for Mathematics. This year our institution has far greater representation in NSTC. RA students have been consistently participating in the qualifying rounds of the IPHO and each year two of our students have become members of IPhO. Such events provide great motivation for students and they are seen more inclined towards studies.

Samia Khalid (A1)

The annual play staged by Resource Academia was a raving success. For those people who were there just to watch, it was just another play, but for those who were a part of the Death Stop team, it was the end of an exciting and exhilarating journey! It all started with four students, sitting in a room, concentrating hard, and trying to find some original ideas for the play. I still remember the way the idea of death stop just clicked among all of us, the rest of the part was pretty easy. In less than a week, we managed to get the whole script typed, printed and ready to be approved.

The difficult part was to get our administration to like it. Little did we know that, Ms Mashhadi would welcome the idea of a script written by a student with great enthusiasm. She immediately sent a copy to the Principal for approval. During this time all we could do was wait.

As soon as the term started, the first auditions were held! And many followed after (it is indeed a tough job to get a cast assembled). Yes! We had, foolishly, decided to direct the play on our own too! However, after a few really unorganized rehearsals, we decided to seek help from some professional directors.

We immediately took a liking to our newly appointed director, Junaid Fazal, who managed to tame us and get us to polish off our acting skills within a month (I know, I know it sounds boring but trust me, the rehearsals were anything but boring. The craziness ranged from Ruwel's constant urge to shove her 5 fingers in front of everyone's face to a small dog being invited to watch our rehearsals! And then there were the trips to international bakery, the goofy dances in LUMS, the endless hours in the seminar room and the constant companionship of friends). I still remember we were always behind schedule, and always in a hurry. Our world fell apart at a slight delay in the stitching of costumes or a little mess-up of lines…….talk about being stressed out!

Miraculously, everything went according to plan and we were ready to stage our performance in front of an audience of approximately 400 people on the 20 th of December 2008. I can't describe the next part; all I remember is that every single one of the cast members and the backstage crew had their fingers crossed. All of us, however, could not believe how well the show was received. The audience loved everything, from the stunning entry to the shockingly real looking phansi to the wonderful soundtracks and, of course, the sword fight was indeed a sight to behold. The play was over in just one and a half hours. The school administration paid for a last after party.

The crew and cast, along with the honorable director, had a great time at Mini golf. While we were enjoying our food, celebrating our achievement, I wondered: could life get any better? Certainly not!
